![]() And the sound she makes when jumping down to the floor, as if she was too heavy to move :-) Oh, there's also the meow she makes when we accidentally (I promise) step on one of her legs (uff, this one is really loud!). ![]() She does not like purring very much, just when you get close to the freezer (she knows there's food inside), and in the morning or late at night, when she comes to bed, but it's a loud sound. The sound she makes when being angry is also very special, like a little dog. And of course, the one to ask for food (each time someone enters the kitchen, so it doesn't matter if she's eaten twice, three, four times. She also has special meows to wake us up, or to play at night, or to claim for some attention. Oh, this last is fantastic!!! she starts meowing histerically because she cannot take the fly! We have a lot of fun when she talks to the birds on the street, or to flies. Thank you for the invite and opportunity to talk about my babies. The next time I get a cat I'm sure it will be a Maine Coon and I hope to get 2 from the same litter. ![]() Venus is a beautiful cat but being a female didn't go well with Christi. Venus came to me when Christi was 16 and I think Christi broke Venus' "spirit". Venus is my 3rd Maine Coon and I'm sorry to say that she is not vocal unless she wants my attention. She had a territorial attitude and I had a nickname (the b#*%#) for her when she was showing what belonged to her. She had a lot to say and could hear it being unwrapped. She was vocal somewhat but made up for it when there was red meat out. I haven't added Alfie's photo yet.Ĭhristi was my 2nd Maine Coon and Alfie's cousin. A furry little humanĪlfie was my 1st Maine Coon and he was a talker for sure, he had a loud deep meow that sounded like the words "OH WOW!" He was amazing and his purr was heard across the room. We've had other cats and I know they were all smart, but Nicky was brilliant. To sum up, (sorry I ramble when I'm excited) I think this trait shows a superior intellect. He was her cat, but I was his boy! She promises to let me know if she finds any. I've asked my other sister, (not the CF-sister )if she has any pictures of Nicky. I wish I would of had the above as a guide! The trill+meow, brings back a tear or two. As I was writing I tried to express what I was recalling in my mind. He put his 2 cents worth in on every last thing! I wrote about how he used to wake me up - he'd lay flat stretching from my chin to my knees (and I was six foot at age 12!) place his paws on either side of my face and then touch me with his frozen nose! - then, after a bit of play fighting, he'd go to my door and purr, meow and knead the carpet, more and more passionately until I got up and fetched him his food! I thought my Mom wasn't feeding him, she was! He coerced me into his 2nd breakfast, the brute.:) It's funny that you bring this up, I wrote my final exam, a 14 page fiction piece based on the Brown Maine Coon Tabby we used to have, Nicodemus! As I was writing the story I was recalling how he was always talking. If I could, I would and it would be a Maine Coon, or two I think. My older sister and I are sharing the family home and she has Cystic Fibrosis. I want to say it up front, right away, that I can't actually keep a cat right now. On a good day when they are both on form it is difficult for me to get a word in ! The quick "chirp" is associated with "I'm here do not ignore me !" The "long low growl" is associated with "hunting mode" and the "iymp-da" is associated with "moving from one elevation to another" Donner the girl is slightly more vocally expressive than Blitz the boy. Yes I do think the combination of trill and meow is probably the best - I always take that as "I like what your doing, please do some more" It is nomally associated with stroking - The very demanding "two tone loud meow" is associated with "food". ![]() He, of course, also responds Coon Catese to the tenor of my voice in certain situations. In answer to your question, I am trying to mimic (as best I can) some of his calls and trills-and he really seems to be responding to that. Also the aggressive, tight sound he makes when he is chasing a bug at the window. The things I enjoy the most are the trills and the combination sound of a trill and a meow. He has a different sound when he eats, when he wants me to get up in the morning, when he is in his crazy cat mode. Spotted attraction edited this topic ages ago.Ĭoda is very vocal. Originally posted at 1:18PM, 3 September 2007 PST They also seem to "talk to each other" the question is : Can your Maine Coon Talk ? These phases are easily identifiable separately and make sense to me at least. Blitz and Donner my two seem to have quite a few phrases to command, normally about food but one or two seem to be about affection, attention and play. Maine Coons are renowned or being vocally expressive.
